U.S. Representative of the Republican People’s Party (CHP)
Mr. Yurter Özcan is the US Representative of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the founding chairman of the Turkish Policy Center in Washington D.C. He previously served as an advisor to CHP since 2011 and is a member of the CHP Foreign Relations Council since 2012.
He received his undergraduate degree from University of Richmond, Virginia in 2004 where he studied Finance and Economics on a full scholarship. After university, he spent a total of six years working for Accenture, Freddie Mac and Corporate Executive Board where he provided corporate consulting to Fortune 500 executives. In May 2008, he received the “Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) Young Turkish Leader of the Year Award” from Turkish Ambassador to the United States H.E. Nabi Sensoy for his leadership in grassroots efforts against anti-Turkey lobby groups in the US.
Mr. Özcan worked at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy’s Turkey Research Program as a researcher between 2009 and 2010. He completed his Master’s Degree at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London (SOAS) on Middle East Politics as a Chevening Scholar and HSBC Fellow in 2011. His thesis titled ‘The Fall and Re-birth of Kurdish Hizbullah in Turkey’ was awarded a Merit degree by the university.
In addition to politics, Mr. Özcan continues his career as the co-founder of the Zermatt Group, an international trade and consulting firm in Washington D.C.
